Winery
In 1989 various winemakers jointly returned to viticulture, an activity that has historically had such a socioeconomic and cultural significance in Bizkaia. In 1995 their first premises were inaugurated in Muskiz, with capacity for 25,000 litres, and in 2002 the Winery was moved to Gernika, an exquisite enclave in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Hillsides close to the Bay of Biscay gave rise to the name of the Winery and to its most valuable asset, 35 hectares of vineyards.
The expression of the climate, the earth, the topography, the microclimate of each field of vines, the planning and management of the vines, the use of respectful and innovative oenological criteria with the most authentic concept of a Designation of Origin has given Bodegas Itsasmendi its very own character. Respect and knowledge have transformed a project that sprang up as modern into a “classic” of the area, and with daily work it has become a small part of the long history of TXAKOLI.
