Castilla y León is one of Spain’s most important and quality driven wine regions, located in the northwest of the country and home to some of its most prestigious appellations. Known for producing structured, age worthy wines with strong terroir identity, the region combines continental intensity with increasing precision and elegance. The vineyards are planted across high-altitude plateaus, often between 700 and 900 meters above sea level, on a mix of limestone, clay, sand, and alluvial soils. The harsh continental climate hot summers, cold winters, and significant diurnal variation allows for optimal ripening while preserving acidity and structure. The region encompasses key appellations such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Toro, and Bierzo, each offering distinct styles. Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) dominates in Ribera del Duero and Toro, producing powerful, structured reds, while Verdejo in Rueda delivers fresh, aromatic whites. Bierzo, with its Atlantic influence, is known for elegant Mencía based wines.
