Meet Anna and Franco Sosol

Anna and Franco Sosol are the winemakers behind Il Carpino in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, northeastern Italy, where they are recognized for their commitment to natural winemaking and expressive, terroir-driven wines. As a family run estate, they have played a key role in shaping Il Carpino’s reputation for authenticity and innovation in the region. Working in the Collio and surrounding areas, their vineyards are planted on the distinctive “ponca” soils, marl and sandstone deposits that define the region’s identity. Influenced by both the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, this unique climate allows for slow ripening, preserving freshness, aromatic complexity, and structure in the grapes. Specializing in indigenous varietals such as Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Malvasia, and Pinot Grigio, Anna and Franco Sosol craft wines that are textured, expressive, and deeply connected to their terroir. Their vineyard philosophy emphasizes organic practices, biodiversity, and careful manual work to ensure healthy vines and optimal grape quality. In the cellar, they follow a minimal intervention approach, including native yeast fermentation, extended skin contact for select wines, and minimal sulphur use. This results in wines that are complex, structured, and distinctive, often showing a natural depth and gastronomic versatility. At Origine, we feature Anna and Franco Sosol as part of our premium Italian selection, highlighting winemakers who combine tradition, sustainability, and authenticity. Their wines reflect the identity of Friuli bold, precise, and deeply shaped by their origin.
