Discover Castilla La Mancha

Castilla La Mancha is Spain’s largest wine producing region, located in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, known for its vast vineyards, continental climate, and increasing focus on quality driven, terroir expressive wines. Traditionally associated with volume production, the region has undergone a significant transformation, now producing wines with greater precision, character, and identity. The vineyards are spread across high altitude plateaus, often between 600 and 800 meters above sea level, planted on a mix of limestone, clay, and sandy soils. The extreme continental climate hot summers, cold winters, and low rainfall combined with altitude allows for concentrated fruit while preserving acidity and balance. Castilla-La Mancha works with a wide range of varietals, including indigenous grapes such as Airén, Tempranillo (Cencibel), and Garnacha, alongside international varieties. While historically dominated by Airén, a new generation of producers is focusing on old vines, site selection, and lower yields to produce more expressive and refined wines. In recent years, the region has seen a strong shift toward organic and sustainable viticulture, as well as minimal-intervention winemaking. This evolution has led to wines that emphasize freshness, purity, and terroir transparency, redefining the perception of the region. At Origine, we feature Castilla La Mancha as part of our premium Spanish selection, highlighting regions that combine scale, diversity, and modern craftsmanship. The wines reflect a new identity for central Spain authentic, evolving, and increasingly terroir driven.
