Discover Galicia
Galicia is a distinctive wine region in northwestern Spain, shaped by its strong Atlantic influence and known for producing some of the country’s most precise, fresh, and mineral driven wines. With its cool, humid climate and rugged, green landscape, Galicia offers a clear stylistic contrast to Spain’s warmer Mediterranean and inland regions. The vineyards are often planted on steep slopes and terraced river valleys, across soils of granite, slate, and sand. The Atlantic climate brings significant rainfall and moderate temperatures, requiring careful vineyard management while enabling slow ripening and the preservation of natural acidity and aromatic complexity. The region is best known for its white wines, particularly Albariño, Godello, and Treixadura, which produce wines that are vibrant, saline, and highly expressive. Galicia also produces elegant red wines from indigenous varieties such as Mencía, Caiño, and Brancellao, typically lighter in body with bright acidity, floral lift, and red fruit character. Key appellations include Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras, and Ribeiro, each offering a unique interpretation of Galicia’s Atlantic terroir. A new generation of producers is driving the region forward through organic farming, old vine preservation, and low intervention winemaking. At Origine, we feature Galicia as part of our premium Spanish selection, highlighting regions that combine freshness, precision, and authenticity.
